About City Fields

About City Fields Who We Are

City Fields is operated by a group of people seeking to restore and regenerate both people and land. Founded by Walton Ingram, a retired professor of agriculture, the organization takes a “service-learning” approach to its work – meaning that we provide agricultural and business skills training that is tied to community service, civic responsibility and economic development.

What We Do

City Fields works with landowners and city governments, as well as churches, ministries and other non-profit organizations to develop farming plots in urban environments. Crops are managed by local volunteers, many of whom are homeless. City Fields trains local volunteers on how to start, manage, harvest and sell the crops. Training curriculum interweaves personal growth, job skills and Christian values. Food grown through City Fields provides food to local shelters, community residents and local farmers markets.

Where We Are

The first City Fields location and our national headquarters is in downtown Chattanooga, TN. We have since expanded to a location in Detroit, Michigan, and are looking for more cities where we can spread this message and this call. Let us know if you’d like to talk about the possibilities for your community.

How You Can Be Involved

City Fields welcomes your participation through financial contributions and as a volunteer. We are also interested in expanding to other communities and welcome discussions with city and ministry leaders in other areas.
This is a sample Thrive website created to highlight the City Fields theme. City Fields is not a real organization or church. Any similarities to an actual organization are happenstance.
